Mobile Clinic

The Mobile Clinic at the Shelter

El Dorado County Shelter staff began using PAWED’s Mobile Spay/Neuter Mobile Clinic to alter animals from the county shelters in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. Clinics are held every Tuesday, and we average about 35 operations each day. Between January 27, 2009, when we began surgeries of the shelter animals, and December 31, 2011, approximately 3000 animals have been altered in our mobile clinic!

Dr. Shirley Harman continues to do an awesome job of performing spay/neuter surgeries of dogs, cats and other small animals for the county.  Shelter staff Danielle, Sara and Brittany continue their careful handling of animals to and from the clinic, supervising the recovery of animals and the cleaning of surgical instruments, clinic and tons of laundry after surgery days.

PAWED Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic Hits to Road!

The PAWED Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic made its debut in Georgetown on Sunday, July 17, 2011! This would be the first time the Mobile Clinic offered low cost spay and neuter services to privately owned pets. The ALL volunteer clinic medical staff included Randy Robinson, DVM (Missouri Flat Pet Clinic) and his RVT, Ysabel Baca and Vet Assistant, Shannon Quinn.   Joining them were 10 PAWED volunteers for intake/discharge, recovery supervision and clinic maintenance/operations. A total of 14 large dogs (largest was a 150 pound Anatolian Shepherd) were scheduled on that first day and amazingly everything went smoothly and all the dogs were resting at home with their families by day’s end.

The learning curve proved to be a bit of a challenge but PAWED volunteers rose to the occasion as they always do.  Increasing the volunteers to 20 per clinic helped manage the constant flow of dogs both large and small for a total of four more clinics which were held once a month ending on the 20th of November 2011, in bone chilling  temperatures.

These 5 clinics are a true testament of the passion and dedication PAWED volunteers have had for the past 5 years to get our Mobile Clinic completely renovated and on the road and into the community. Yes it has been a long road to get here and there is a long road ahead–but it is truly worth every minute! We look forward to 2012 and getting our Clinic back on the road serving outlying communities and providing very low cost altering services.

Mobile Clinic Disaster Response

In the summer of 2008, California experienced a lightning siege that caused fires across the state.  Butte County was hit hard and requested our Mobile Spay/Neuter & Disaster Response Clinic to respond to Chico to assist critically ill animals.

The Clinic  was staged at one of the evacuation centers in Chico where temperatures soared to 106°F with humidities at 90%.  The Clinic served as a triage and treatment clinic for the evacuation center helping evacuated pets who were suffering from burns, heat stroke and smoke inhalation.  Dr. Jeff Smith volunteered his time to assist those in need, saving countless lives in the process.

We were proud to have been able to support the evacuation center with our clinic and dedicated volunteers!
